The Temple of Juno

The Temple was located in Deep Playa, far away from the camps. Traveling to it was a good ten minute ride. Stepping past the outer fence, I arrived at the tail-end of an official Playa Wedding, complete with a certified Black Rock City Minister. This was official! After sending the newly-weds off, I stepped into the center of The Temple, completely awestruck by the ornate detail of the Altar and the building as a whole. The reverence was almost tangible within The Temple, with only the occasional sob breaking the silent prayers of the throngs of people. Some scribbled prayers and wishes into the carved walls, while others left letters and pictures to loved ones; all with the knowledge that The Temple would burn on Sunday.

Burning Man Part 2

Since I’ve returned from The Playa, people have asked me to describe Burning Man for them. My response: A dropped jaw, a heavy sigh, and my hands on my head. Burning Man is enlightening. Burning Man is a spiritual journey. It’s also a GIANT PARTY! I can’t fully describe it in words. The first picture of this post is a woman in red robes dancing on The Playa. There wasn’t any music, there wasn’t a crowd around her; she was simply dancing with the wind as the sun set over the desert. That is the spirit of The Burn. Completely open, artistic self-expression. No judgement, no fear, no resentment. (Also, check out Jesus, the Sand Surfer and The Man at Sunset!)
